Alook’s Dance in France is a storybook for toddlers and children that’s about a magical journey around the world. Alook travels all around the world and ends up in Paris, France where he learns how to do the Koolamundo street dance with some friends. Alook also has an enchanted magic bead that I know I would want, as it helps him carry his home, personal belongings and travel journal all inside the bead. Really the book was created by the author to help you and your toddler talk about all the different places in the world. You can talk about just how fun it would be to travel and it should help them get the traveller’s bug at a young age.
In Alook’s Dance in France, Kimberley Kleczka (author) details the diversity of our world; it’s why the world is so great! She goes out of her way to make sure your child wants to know more about places he or she might not be familiar with. We all know how much we want our children to be curious little creatures, and this book cultivates just that. I always love books with a message that helps our children feel confident in exploring and this book does just that.
Now, we’ve reviewed Kimberley Kleczka’s books before (and I’m hoping we’ll get to review more)! She always makes sure that every page comes with a great rhyme and that always leaves me impressed with her writing skills. Don’t get what I mean? Can you imagine finding a way to rhyme Alaska? Now think about how hard it would be to rhyme the names of cities and countries and you get an idea just how good Kimberley is. She rhymes flawlessly on every page of the book and through this uncanny skill, she helps your child retain more of the book. What’s more, the cadence of your reading as a parent becomes easy to manage and the whole rhythm of the book becomes an incredibly enjoyable experience.
Apoorva Dingar is the illustrator of Alook’s Dance in France. She illustrates a number of Kimberley’s books. As per usual (for Apoorva), every page pops out at you. Your toddler will love just how colorful the illustrations are and just how cute every character is. The animal characters created for this book are downright cute and fun to look at (see that picture above for an example). I think the efforts behind all of the illustrations really help this book to stand out.
Now, most books you buy leave you with a book. That makes sense, right? However, with Kimberley’s books she includes a package of products that are sold with the book and that you can use to enhance your experience. As usual, the author has provided a read along video for the book:
Also provided with the book is the Koolamundo theme song, which is hosted on YouTube:
Kimberly also has a pretty substantial website with other songs, books, and a great deal more at Koolamundo.com. There’s even a game for Klara’s book!
For the next four days – December 4 to December 8, 2016, Kimberley Kleczka’s Alook’s Dance in France is going to be free on Kindle! Here’s the link for that: Alook. If you happen to miss that promotion, it’s a pretty inexpensive book for all that you get (Kindle – $2.88 USD, Paperback – $9.48 USD).
Oh, and just in case you wanted to see one of the author’s other books, here’s Klara The Cow Who Knows How To Bow.
Until next time, Smash, Crash, and Learn!
