The Five Colors of Our Nature Walk is a storybook for toddlers. Our author Latisha Jones takes the reader (and your toddler, for that matter) on a journey of learning about nature. Our two main characters, Joshua and his mother, head out on a nature walk. Joshua then gets to learn about nature and more specifically, the many colors of leaves. In the end, the book works to bring children outside to discover for themselves the beauty of nature.
What I really enjoy about this book is the level of professionalism coming from Latisha. As you read through her bio at the end of the book, you gain another level of respect; you understand exactly why the book is so effective. Latisha very intentionally brings her incredible education to bear as she helps your toddler discover a great deal about nature, colors, and even a bit about numbers. What’s more impressive is that she does it from the pages of a colorful book.
Speaking of illustrations…let’s talk a bit about those. My favorite part of the illustrations in this book is just how realistic the people are. The people are drawn just like real people, and I think they might even be people in the illustrator’s (Sean Winburn) life. I say that because the faces and the expressions you will see in the book will probably remind you of someone from your life; I know they did that for me.
What’s also great about the illustrations are the colors. It’s important for this book and for Latisha’s purpose that the images are colorful, as it helps toddlers to absorb all of the different concepts they’re being given. Take a look at just how spectacular the colors are in the leaves below.
In the end, this is a fun little storybook for toddlers and children. It has solid messaging and the illustrations are realistic and fun. There’s really nothing negative to say here at all and so it’s easy to recommend it as a buy. In fact, Latisha managed to entirely fund her Kickstarter campaign, which is a feat on its own. What’s even more impressive is that this book has been featured on Fox, NBC, ABC, and CBS! I don’t think it’s every book out there that gets featured this way.
